High Temperature Grease

Long-Lasting, Non-Melting Grease Provides Constant Protection for High-Temperature Bearing Applications

Overview

When it comes to grease, “high temperature” is relative and application-specific. Bearings in a steel mill roll-out table, for example, may endure process temperatures in the hundreds of degrees, with sustained temperatures between 250°F and 300°F (120°C to ±150°C). Conversely, automotive assembly lines use long conveyors to guide painted metal parts through drying ovens, where temperatures can reach as high as 400°F (205°C).

The requirements for grease in these applications differ significantly. For a steel mill, the grease must resist heat while also offering exceptional load-carrying capability, oxidation stability, mechanical stability, water washout resistance, and good pumpability—all while being cost-effective for high-volume usage. For a conveyor in an automotive drying oven, heat resistance and consistent lubrication are the primary considerations.

Selecting the right grease for extreme temperature conditions involves evaluating several critical factors:

  • Oil Type and Viscosity: Determines the grease’s ability to provide a lubricating film at high temperatures.
  • Thickener Type and Stability: Influences the grease’s ability to maintain its structure and resist melting or separation under heat.
  • Additives: Enhance oxidation stability, load-carrying capacity, and corrosion resistance.
  • Environmental Factors: Includes ambient temperature, operating temperature, and potential contamination.
  • Application Parameters: Such as relubrication intervals, load, and speed.

High-temperature environments can cause ordinary greases to melt and run, leaving critical surfaces unprotected. The right high-temperature grease will resist oxidation, vaporization, and thermal degradation, ensuring long-lasting performance and minimizing downtime caused by bearing failures.

Lubrication Engineers offers a range of greases formulated specifically for extreme temperature applications. These include:

Proper lubrication is vital for bearings and machinery operating in high-temperature environments. Lubrication Engineers’ high-temperature greases are designed to withstand the most demanding conditions, ensuring reliable performance, extended lubrication intervals, and reduced maintenance costs.

About Lubrication Engineers

Lubrication Technologies, Inc. has been an independent manufacturer’s representative of Lubrication Engineers, Inc. for over 45 years. LE’s line of high-performance lubricants – manufactured and made of highly refined base oils and proprietary additives – far exceed the performance of conventional lubricants in a wide variety of industrial and automotive applications. LE greases offer benefits such as reduced wear, reduced operating temperatures, longer equipment life, enhanced performance, increased efficiency, increased uptime, lower grease consumption, longer service intervals and reduced maintenance. Call our consultants at Lubrication Technologies (413) 788-5823 for more information on LE Products. We will grant a 5% discount, only available to new LE customers.

LTI, has designed and installed Automatic Lubrication Systems for the Aggregate Industry; excavators, backhoes, wheel loaders, compactors and many other applications, both large and small. Not only does the aggregate industry have hauling equipment, there are the other applications that need lubrication systems/operations, such as crushing, screening, stacking, loading, and digging. As each of our systems is custom designed, we can provide many varying configurations, depending on the size of the machine in which they are used.

Lubricants - Small Cost, Huge Returns

Lubrication Management Programs Protect Your Assets and Save You Money:

Although lubricants make up a mere 3% of the typical maintenance budget; using ineffective products, techniques and applications can have a significant impact on the lubrication-related costs that make up 40% of that budget. A Lubrication Management Program designed by the Technical Consultants at Lubrication Technologies, Inc. can help you target those areas where you see red.

  • Your equipment and components will last longer, run more efficiently and more reliably, and you won’t replace equipment or components prematurely
  • Your labor force will spend less time on routine lubrication-related maintenance and no time on lubricant-related equipment failures
  • You’ll reduce over-all lubricant consumption as well as waste
