High Temperature Grease

Durable, Heat-Resistant Grease for Demanding Applications

Overview

High temperature grease is formulated to protect machinery exposed to continuous or intermittent heat where standard greases would oxidize, melt, or fail to maintain a lubricating film. What qualifies as “high temperature” depends on the application. Bearings in a steel mill may operate around 250°F to 300°F (120°C to 150°C), while conveyors in automotive paint ovens can reach temperatures up to 400°F (205°C). In these environments, the grease must resist oxidation, maintain structure, and provide reliable film strength to prevent wear and extend service life.

Lubrication Engineers’ high temperature greases are engineered for these demanding conditions. Each formulation combines premium base oils with advanced thickeners and proprietary additives such as Almasol® and Monolec® to deliver lasting protection against heat, load, and oxidation. From steel mills and industrial ovens to mobile equipment and processing plants, these greases ensure stable performance, reduced maintenance, and dependable lubrication in high heat environments.

How to Select a High Temperature Grease

Selecting the right grease for high temperature applications requires understanding how heat, load, and environment affect lubricant performance. The following factors should be evaluated before choosing a product:

  • Base Oil Type and Viscosity: Determines the grease’s ability to maintain a protective film at elevated temperatures. Synthetic base oils generally perform better in sustained high heat.
  • Thickener Type and Stability: Affects the grease’s ability to retain structure and resist melting or oil separation. Complex thickeners such as lithium complex, aluminum complex, and calcium sulfonate are commonly used for high temperature service.
  • Additives: Enhance oxidation resistance, corrosion protection, and load-carrying capability. Solid lubricants like Almasol® or molybdenum disulfide can provide additional surface protection.
  • Environmental Conditions: Consider exposure to water, dust, or process contaminants that may accelerate degradation or washout.
  • Application Parameters: Include bearing speed, load, and relubrication intervals, all of which influence grease life and performance.

Choosing a grease that matches these factors ensures stable lubrication, reduced downtime, and extended service intervals in high temperature environments.

High temperature greases are used wherever equipment operates near heat sources or under conditions that cause standard lubricants to oxidize or break down.

Typical applications include:

  • Steel and Metal Processing: Roll-out tables, kiln fans, furnace conveyors, and bearings exposed to sustained high heat and heavy loads.
  • Automotive Manufacturing: Conveyor systems, oven bearings, and material-handling equipment operating in paint and drying ovens.
  • Industrial Equipment: Motors, pumps, blowers, and other machinery requiring stable lubrication under continuous thermal stress.
  • Food and Packaging Operations: Ovens, dryers, and heated conveyors where temperature resistance and clean operation are essential.

Lubrication Technologies, Inc. has been an independent manufacturer’s representative of Lubrication Engineers, Inc. for over 45 years. LE’s line of high-performance lubricants – manufactured and made of highly refined base oils and proprietary additives – far exceed the performance of conventional lubricants in a wide variety of industrial and automotive applications. LE greases offer benefits such as reduced wear, reduced operating temperatures, longer equipment life, enhanced performance, increased efficiency, increased uptime, lower grease consumption, longer service intervals and reduced maintenance.
